So I've been wanting to make a journal like this one for a while and now I finally decided to actually make it!
1. How can I improve?
One of the most important things to know about improvement is that anatomy is only one of many things you can improve , so if you feel like you haven't improved just try to look at more than just the anatomy and you'll see that you probably improved in shading, colouring, perspective or lining. I also see a lot of people complaining about not finding ways to study and improve certain things so here's a list on things you can do:
-Stay away from "how to draw..." books! Most of them are badly written and don't actually teach you anything.
- Use references!
-Be open to any kind of critique! Even if somebody just comments "This sucks" go ahead and ask them why and what you can change to make it look better. Or ask people why they like your art to see what your strong points are. And most importantly don't judge the critique by whom it's from.A lot of artist tend to make the mistake not to take any kind of critique from artists with less experience /a lower skill level.Take critique from anyone, even people who cant draw at all!
-Don't aim for perfection because you're never gonna reach it anyway. Art has no perfection because art is freedom and has no rules or guidelines! Art is whatever you want it to be so stop trying to fit in and just do what seems like the most fun to you. Try out new styles and art forms like writing or animating! Don't get stuck with one style because that'd be the end of your artistic freedom and creativity.
-Find your own way to study! You should also try to study as often as possible but don't force yourself to and most importantly
-Draw what you think you can't draw at all but also try to work on what you're already good at!
2. I'm not happy with my art. How do I change that?
-Stop trying to fit in a category. Do things nobody's ever done before. Who knows, maybe you will be the creator of the next big art style!
- Don't try to always just please the viewers but try to do what makes you happy instead.
- Don't compare yourself to other artist.
-Don't force yourself to draw even if that means you wont be drawing anything for a few days.
How can I be an active part of the artist community/a fandom?
-Be nice to less experienced artists! Don't act like you're better then them but try to help them improve instead.
-Don't treat more experienced artists like gods. It's more annoying than flattering.
-Talk to people! Just be yourself and don't try to impress anyone.
-Sharing is caring! Share your knowledge with anyone , even artist with way more experience than you.
I have an art block! What can I do about it?
-Don't force yourself to draw.
-Watch a bunch of movies ,play video games , go out with friends etc.
You should add: [link] this website to your your suggestions! My art college uses this site in many classes and I find a hugeeeee personal help tool to practice with my own time. Its easier than looking up things on google, I can set a timer to pace/challenge myself and it even has animals!
